    Are you talking about DJ's mixing? Or artist using breaks or hip hop samples?

    There was a bit of it going on. I can remember DJ's in the UK dropping R&B and soul vocals with hip hop instrumentals around 88. But I would guess Ron.

    Someone once told me they heard David Cole dropping Gwen Guthrie and some other soulish vocals with a mash up of hip-hopish house stuff in the 80's also.

    As far as artist. In 88 there was a few R&B artist using hip hop sample or breaks.

    Off the top of my head I remember Vanessa Williams doing he's got the look that had I know you got soul in the background in 88 and even included some JB samples (If memory serves me correct) dropped in for good measure.

    I for some reason remember an RJ's Latest Arrival remix that had Public Enemy & Grandmaster Flash samples in it. Can remember the track tho.

    Milli Vanilli jacked breaks in a few songs.

    I know there are a few before 88. But I can't seem to remember anything.

    Also... those megamix comps (DJ remix service) were pretty big in the 80's. There were some dudes that we're doing megamixes back then doing all this kinda stuff as well.
