NEW YORK hostels. Where's good ?

Howdy.My girlie is travelling the world and will be swinging by New York (on a low budget).Anyone know any good value hostels with good security ?Peace.Lee.She saw one called Pink Hostel, at 137 West 111th St Harlem. Anyone know the area well ?

    There's one in my area on Amsterdam and 104th. Its a nice neighborhood, and is right near my favorite pizza in the world.

    That said, I don't know anything about the hostel itself other than its a real old kinda classic building and it looks pretty reputable. I believe it's one of the bigger international ones (Hosteling International?), and there always seem to be a bunch of tourists sitting around happily on the tables out front, for whatever thats worth. Sorry I don't have more info.
