    Dude was an influence on me when I was comin up.

    He'll never be canonized like Jacob Lawrence or Basquiat, but to go down in history w/ Good Times/I Want You is a great way to place your stamp on history.

    I always loved when they get to show what J.J. was workin on in Good Times. It added another dimension to the show. Within all the laughs/drama was this cats artwork.

    To many underexposed Black Folk, this is "Black Art" personified. Go into many "Black Art" galleries and you'll see variations on Barnes' style.

    Based on the Ernie Barnes painting Late Night DJ (also used for the cover to Curtis Mayfield's album Something To Believe In".



    A fantastic painter and athlete. I loved that he was the official artist of'84 Summer Olympics here in Los Angeles. Truly a legend.

    I know...between him and Vern Gosdin (the country singer), those are two deaths I knew nothing of until 15 minutes ago.
