ACETATE question

Does the type of needle/stylus used on an acetate LP affect how fast the sound quality deteriorates, or does that not matter? Are the grooves damaged by playing the LP period, or does playing it once every so often slightly preserve the quality of the grooves? Any tips or suggestions on how to best preserve acetate pressings, or is the answer simply, "don't play it"?

Pretty sure "don't play it" is the answer, although if you're going to play it at all you definitely want to use a good needle on a properly calibrated turntable.

I'd suggest ripping it with a new needle once and filing it away.

record it and either keep it or sell it on ebay or to a private collector. keep an acetate for collector reasons or historical reasons. otherwise get rid of it and free up the space

  • Or if you have a stupid amount of cash spare http://www.elpj.com/

Perfect, but as mentioned very pricey
