pressing spacebar after apple shift +4 lets you select a window to grab. Instead of sizing your own window, very convenient.

This move:

Command-Shift-4, then press Control while selecting Take a picture of the screen, place in Clipboard

followed by [Command-V]

pastes the screeen grab directly into whatever (email, pshop etc) application you have open.
