So, I don't know very much about this one-man army, but I really liked his work on Ultramagnetic MC's Four Horsemen and his Cenubites collaboration with Kool Keith. I've since heard his debut album, Hazardous, and haven't found it terribly inspiring (maybe because that album shows its age too much). Diabolique, his album on Hydra, is a good effort, but nowhere near the quality of Cenubites.I understand, however, that he also has one or two essential 12"s on Hydra. Can someone school me?PEACEGoblah

    Its didn???t sound that good at the time.
    The beats were OK (but nothing special) and I guess that can be said about the vocals too.

    It was just missing that certain element that makes an album special.

    He did this thing where he did all 3 verses of a track in a different voice, which I found mildly entertaining for a short while.

    Properties Of Steel, Big Katz and Burn (from that BQE EP) all appear on Diabolique. I wonder if they're the same, or altered, versions of those songs.

    By the way, besides being a little too long, I found Diabolique frustrating because Don's rhymes are so inconsistent. Sometimes he flows like it's 1993 and drops some crazy multisyllables, other times he sounds totally disinterested, kicking fairly bland couplets, with little attention to flow. Still, there are some top tunes on that album.

    PS - I echo the opinions that "Diabolique" was disappointing, but "Kaos" off that album was FIRE.

    I've scoured the web for references to Don, and it would seem he has found Jesus, so he no longer rhymes though he still makes beats.

    On another note, I always thought his verse on Ultra's Raise It Up sounded like something Pharoahe Monch would do. I wonder what a collaboration project between those two would be like...

    IMHO this is the 12" to get, though styles by the gram/world premier/properties of steel was good too

    'Styles by the Gram' is the other one you might want to check. I can't remember if it's a b-side of those already mentioned, but it's very good. That
    and 'Properties of Steel' are my favourite songs by him off those Hydra 12"s.

    Surprising to hear that he 'found Jesus'. I remember reading an article with/about him in Hip Hop Connection years and years ago, where he was talking about some extreme hardcore porn and death metal, both originating from Europe. It was interesting to say the least!

    Damn that takes me back, I miss that magazine. It was quality until about '98.

    I don't find it that surprising when folks flop from one extreme to the other... I mean, they're just extremists in the first place (i.e. 'straight edge' guy becomes junky, 'satanist' becomes born again xian, etc)

    don's a real cool cat. he's on some other nowadays. he played me this jazz shit he's making now. all the drums are on the mpc60, but sound pretty convincing as a rhythm section. you should hear the metal shit he made too. absolutely noodles.
