But what if there was a way to escape one and find the other?Enter the opportunity organizers are calling the 'dream job of a lifetime' - a chance to hang out at a warm beach for 6 months, be provided with a luxurious place to stay and earn a salary of just over Cdn$86,000 for your trouble. What's the catch? You have to be willing to move a long way to make it happen. An Australian tourist ministry has an opening for someone from almost anywhere in the world to take a job on the island of Hamilton in the Great Barrier Reef. The duties of this employment sound more like a reward than a task. You'll be required to collect the mail that arrives once a day by plane, clean your swimming pool - which already has its own filter so you won't really have to do much - and feed some of the 1,500 species of fish that live offshore. But you'll also be 'forced' to go scuba diving, snorkeling, sailing, hiking, picnicking and check the facilities at 25 of the island's resorts by dune buggy, before blogging about your workday for the world to see.Transportation to and from the island is included and you'll be staying in a swanky three bedroom, two bathroom home, complete with a fully equipped kitchen, a state of the art entertainment centre, air conditioning, laundry facilities and a deck with a view of paradise (below.)To top it all off, there's no age limit. The job starts on July 1st, which is winter Down Under but hardly an impediment. Temperatures rarely go below about 16C at night and it's a balmy paradise during the day.So how do you get the dream job of a lifetime? The Queensland tourist board is seeking video applications of no longer than one minute to be submitted to their website from around the world. About 30,000 applications will be taken and judges will look at each one. They'll pick 50 finalists for their originality and passion, with a wild card finalist selected by visitors to the site. All will be required for an in-person interview between May 3rd and May 7th. Tourism Queensland, which has been affected by the global economic slump, is hoping to attract visitors with its novel publicity gimmick, but assures the prize - er, the job - is the real thing."We're looking for someone with an adventurous attitude, passion for the outdoors and good communication skills," reveals the website. "A broad range of experience is considered and Tourism Queensland will be selecting applicants based on: * Enthusiasm for the role * Entertainment value (personality and creativity) * Presentation skills (being media-friendly) * At least one year's relevant experience If you want to enter, you can find more details here. But you'd better hurry. The deadline for applications is February 22nd - roughly about the time Canadians begin to feel like it's been winter forever.Photos courtesy: Tourism Queensland
