Soul Cities on vh1 soul

Just watched a 3 hour block of the 30 min episodes late last night. What a job Nelson George has: Just travel around to various cities interviewing Musicians, see the sites, eat great food, and to top it all off visit record stores! The record store guy in Philly was funny though.. "You can email me but don't email me back if I don't respond saying it's been 5 minutes!" Would love to fill his shoes for a season, if there were a 2nd season(which I doubt)

Was this Val Shively?
I figure he'd probably run out of places by then. There were only SO MANY "soul cities" in the 50 states to go around (and please don't start telling me about some secret-squirrel one-band funk scene in Montana!).
Where's the thread where one if the SS dudes got shitted on by George.
"Nelson Geroge Is an Asshole.."
Philly, Memphis and New Orleans.
Also San Francisco and LA were the last 2 cities. Nelson actually went to the Rootdown and said he had his birthday party there a couple of years ago...
Treat me like I was working for him...asking, no telling me to dig up
Certain "Memphis" records...and I would have to argue with know
Nothing folks trying to explain to them that certain records had nothing
To do with Memphis. Since they weren't paying me, I gave up trying
To help them since they were trying to boss me around. At least they
Took my suggestion to talk about James carr's "you got my mind messed
Up". But, a "ehhhh" experience on the day of shooting.
What were these "certain records?"
I saw him do an in-store for his Buppies, B-Boys, Baps & Bohos book, 14 years ago...I remember thinking he had a slightly pompous air about him. Seemed nice enough when he signed my copy of his book (and he was amazed that I remembered the column he used to do in Billboard in the '80s). But seeing the way he interacted with others made him come off like a real SOB. At least one time it was warranted - somebody tried to film the event without permission, so he had a right to raise a stink. But otherwise, he did act like he was too cool for the room.
The dumbest record they wanted me to get was a big john Patton lp, I told them that he was from Kansas city and recorded for blue note ...I said told the assistant that they were probably thinking of big Amos Patton, a blues artist that recorded for hi...the assistant kept insisting on big john Patton, but
Since they were shooting at the shop when they were doing the record stuff, I didn't want the shop look ignorant, so I just hid the Patton records and said I couldn't find any in time for the shoot
I saw bits of the San Fran & Nawlins episodes and thought the show was fairly terrible.
It feels like a third-rate travel show on the Food Network with some music talk thrown in.
Plus George always has that f*cking smug grin on his face.
