font class="post"1b, 21b, 21As much as I want him to win an Oscar for The Joker in The Dark Knight, how can u even place him in the same catagory as Bo Diddley and Issac Hayes?
font class="post"1b, 21b, 21Scary good vocalist. Though we all knew it was inevitable, I don't know anyone who wasn't surprised when it finally happened. Those last few years of not being able to sing must have been tortuous.b, 21b, 21Ed
font class="post"1b, 21b, 21Ah, quick edit to add the "Y". I'd say that Funk(y) is poised to make a come back & that people will be deserting Brazilian & Latin. Look at the Arthur Verocai backlash, combine that with certain socio-political trends, & I'm bullish on Funk in 2009.

font class="post"1b, 21I like your bullishness but I'll wait until I see a change in the fundamental indicators before I hop back on the train to funky town.
Oliver Postgate b, 21b, 21A name that will mean nothing to you Americans, or probably anyone outside the UK, but he was the co-creator of a href="" target="_blank"1some/a1 of the a href="" target="_blank"1finest/a1 childrens a href="" target="_blank"1television/a1 ever made.

font class="post"1b, 21b, 21I'm trying to track trends & there are some strong indications that Funk is due for a massive turn-around. I think the Clinton Administration was a good time for all things funky. Toni Morrison called Clinton "The first Black President"; He played the sax, prefered thick women, & ate poorly. Funk with or without the "Y" was doing well. Then the Bush Administration & 9-11 happened. b, 21b, 21The next few years would prove rough for funk. Bush was not remotely funky, nor did he seem sympathetic to things displaying the slightest trope of funk, like New Orleans, for example. He was called out by Kanye West, who, if his music is any indication, is not terribly funky himself. Just look at this board for an indication of the kind of people that supported George Bush. There's that sabadabada person. Not to single him out, but I don't know if he even owns a single James Brown record. Would he even know what "Funky President" is? I don't know.b, 21b, 21To the further detriment of funk, American foreign policy & the Iraq war embarassed many Americans, and pushed them to trade in their musical citizenship. Ashamed to be "Living In America", record collectors dropped JB and embraced many weird records that suck.b, 21b, 21Now, there's going to be a new president. He's Black, or at least a close approximation to Black. This bodes well for funk into the future. In this administration, George Clinton stands poised to be more relevant than George Bush (Paint The White House Black!). Barak Obama is the "Starchild" of Bill & George Clinton. Funk shall thrive. 2009 will be a great year.
