OK, b, 21b, 21I got alot of 60s rock records which I really enjoy listening to. The thing is, I dont understand anything of all these sub-genres. Personally, I refer to all these records as "60s rock". Can someone please try to explain all these sub-categories to me? alot of them are probably "prog" too. I have no idea? Alot of the stuff I related to as prog are early-mid 70s stuff..

    freakbeat is quite heavy beat music from the mid-late 60's, maybe some proto psych or blue-eyed soul touches - - Small Faces etc could fit into this category.b, 21b, 21b, 21 Jerk stuff is like European beat music -- often heavy on the organ. b, 21b, 21 Mod can be pretty much anything --- didnt mod nights in the 70's & 80's used to consist of lots of 60's rock until they all started playing what the original mods listened to - Soul. b, 21b, 21 ebay sellers attatch the handle 'mod psych dancer' to pretty much any record from the 60's!!

    I am just now hearing the term "jerk" to describe a subgenre of 19670's rock. It sounds pretty fake to me, just like "popcorn soul" and "power soul" and any other term that sounds like it was made up by a bored record dealer.

    a "jerk" is a euro term for a certain 60s rhythm...Mustang Sally's beat is pretty much the proto-type "jerk" rhythm...think in the pocket, head noddin backbeat...thats a "jerk"...so when you find those 60s euro 7" eps and libraries and you see "(jerk)" next to the song titles...its going to have a soul-ish backbeat..

    I love threads like these because for once I can feel like the mod faux_rillz and roll my eyes at the little-dudeness of the strut while never actually dropping any knowledge. b, 21b, 21Well almost no knowledge.b, 21b, 21/font1

It's an even harder-to-define genre than northern soul.
