Which of the strut Hollywood insideurs has seen a href="http://movies.nytimes.com/2008/12/12/movies/12che.html" target="_blank"1this?/a1 b, 21b, 21It could be really ill. Fidel and Che's takeover of the island is one of the most fascinating military campaigns ever to me. I always thought it was ripe for a really good film treatment. the early Mexico pre-invasion days; the US diplomatic maneuvering; the battles and takeover; Che-Fidel relationshp; later years of Che's life would be fascinating; Congo, sneaking back into Cuba, etc. Not sure how much of the story this movie covers but I wanna see it.b, 21b, 21 img src="http://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/2008/12/12/movies/12che.large2.jpg"1

I'll admit that I am not as educated on the man (or the revolution) as some of you may be, but the movie made Che seem pretty damn Christ-like. Not really a complaint, 'cause for all I know he WAS truly an angel for the poor, just sayin'...
I just read the review and this:
describes what I said above.
I had to look up 'hagiography' (the study of saints).
I watched part one. Is it supposed to be all scenes out of wack? No real order? Or did i watch unedited not in order scenes?
It's in order with the aforementioned UN speech being the exception.
BUMP
I saw both parts in the theater this past Thursday. Yes, it was long as shit, with only a 10 minute break. And you have to buy two movie tickets.
Anyway, that being said, I found it to be an enjoyable film. Admittedly, I do not know much about Che and his history so I cannot comment on its accuracy. From what I understand, the writers/producers had researched this for years on end. So I would like to think it was close.
It did not seem glamorized or skewed for the masses. However, there were a few random cameos that seemed very awkward. Matt Damon is in it for like 30 seconds, and when I say 30 seconds I mean that quite literally. I guess he just wanted to be apart of the project?
Bonus beat: During the film I went to go take a piss and Benicio del Toro was standing in the hallway. He was a pretty mellow and gracious dude. Turns out that my showing had a special QnA with him after the movie. It was a nice surprise.
And yes, the first part does jump around a lot, but it gets more linear towards the end.
I know many a lady that would've fainted and/or jumped his bones if they were in your shoes.
Hell, I know many a dude that would do the same!
Saw it a month ago and it does justice to the man. The story only covers the Cuba revolution as told by Che is his book "Recuerdos de la revolucion cubana"... and if you read that book it follows his narrative very closely...doesnt get into all the other stuff, in fact its left set up for a sequel.
I have been an avid Guevarista since a young age and read all his books, studied his shit pretty deeply, so I was critical of any movie capturing his ideas and actions well, but they do the best job possible being a Hollywood US production. The spanish is nailed perfectly (especially the distinct accents from Che-Argetine and the Cubans slang). Benecio looks the part and got the mannerisms right... even little things like the UN speech was recreated very close to the original footage.
Its bascially a visual recreation of Che anedotes from the Cuba revolucion, so Im sure there are ppl that will say its biased (probably most of Miami will hate it), but I was impressed, obviously I have a personal interest in Che and his history, but as a movie lover I think they did a good job, the way its presented, the camera shots, the B&W images, the plot etc....
Cant wait till the second part...although I heard there was a Latin American production for a Che movie happenning too, si Im waiting to hear about that one...
Did you realised that when Che was in NY, speaking as a guest of the UN, Cuban exiles (with CIA backing and training) tried to blow up a hotel, and then let a bomb off on the Hudson River to try and stop Che speaking...
So the CIA organised and approved terrorist acts in NY....
Benicio, aka love of my life, was on Howard Stern last week and it was pretty hilarious.
