whats teh fusk?! Static in my grooves...

So I've cleaned the thing, it's in good shape, and when I play it I'm getting static. It's primarily on one channel, and it mostly correlates to mid high frequencies. It's definitely not the needle, definitely not the player, and definitely not the stereo. Anyone have any ideas what kind of record demon I'm dealing with?

    I've had the same problem with my Vestax portable, though only a couple times. It was really bad with Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits (no, it's not worn out). I thought it might have been a shielding problem with the cable or speakers or something.
