This must be the Grail of all Grails for Beatles collectros (I'm assuming #1-4 will never go up for auction). Do you think the vinyl is original to the sleeve? If the first owner acquired it under such casual circumstances, he may have rinked it up!b, 21b, 21I wonder if there's a database among Beatles collectros that accounts for some of the other low numbers. It might be interesting (only from a true nerd POV, of course) to see where some of those other LPs ended up.
It's worth noting that according to Popsike, the most $ LP they have in their records is a Sex Pistols 45 which sold for 12675 pounds. This Beatles LP went for 19201 pounds. b, 21b, 21I have to say though: that's not chump change but compared to other mass-produced objects, records are still kind of cheap. b, 21b, 21Look at this: http://www.abebooks.com/docs/RareBooks/10-expensive-2007.shtml/a1

b, 21b, 21That's interesting that two self-help books (AA-related) fetch such high prices.

b, 21b, 21this acetate isn't the jackson five at all but a different group from the same area - magical connection on solar sun.b, 21the record was actually released and is semi-obscure but not really valuable.b, 21the seller of the above auction was informed of this while the auction was ongoing but basically ignored the information.b, 21i'm not sure if the winning bidder actually paid for this but i hope not for their sake.
I understand the collector mentality a little bit, but this just fascinates me... b, 21b, 21the 0000005 is no less "rare" than my (superior stereo copy) numbered 0511114, statistically speaking. The price tag on the one I'm looking at says $5.99. This eBay "winner" and I both got ripped off, I think. b, 21b, 21I'm left with many questions:b, 21b, 21Why was the visiting musician's identity left out of the auction info? Is it for fear of public ridicule, for having let go of NUMBER FIVE?b, 21b, 21Will it be played?b, 21b, 21Does dude think he was played?b, 21b, 21also:b, 21WTF?
good pointb, 21i think the fact that it was in lennons possession at one time has something to do with it.b, 21and arnt lower pressings generally more sought after?

b, 21b, 21Statistically accurate. b, 21But the first of the first press has to be more desirable than the last of the first pressed. b, 21Low White Album #s are always in demand. b, 21I have been told that there are duplicates #s. b, 21In other words there are more than 1 #5 UK monos. b, 21BTW, Mono White Albums are rare, it was not pressed in Mono in the USA. b, 21b, 21

b, 21b, 21With book and other types of auctions "From the collection of..." is a popular marketing technique. With records you almost never see it. b, 21b, 21

b, 21b, 21It will never be played again. Which I think is stupid.
Quote:h, 21b, 21This stuff is small potatoes--the really rare books don't move through these kinds of channels.b, 21b, 21h, 21
font class="post"1b, 21b, 21This makes more sense to me. No way should AA books (despite how much they help) be valued above old school literature first editions or even early religious texts, IMHO.
