I'm not generally a Jodorowsky fan, but I can definitely understand why people are. I just can't help getting this terrible 70's hangover feeling whenever I watch one of his movies.b,121b,121Why is it your favorite film?
beyond amazing filmb,121also peep el topob,121jodorowsky really is a slept on directorb,121he made holy mountain for 600,000 and i think that is a small miracle due to the films epic ass kickingb,121 how many films feature a baby rhino in a pool.b,121a legless armless midget getting jesus high.b,121the spanish colonization of latin america depicted with frogs.b,121a lady having sex with a mountain while climbing to reach spiritual awareness.b,121blood as birdsb,121and the roman church getting jesus drunk so they can mass produce the image.b,121you could teach an entire semester in film class on that one filmb,121so many meanings b,121highly highly recommend viewing multiple times.
El Topo is better overall-- I thought Holy Mountain, while stunning, went a bit too far in its mindfuckery, but of course the brilliant ending kind of addresses that. Santa Sangre is very good in its own right, too. Though I can see how some folks wouldn't like it.
Holy mountain is a monster of a film -- absolutely great fun. the sets alone are f*cking amazing!!b,121b,121 now where can i get hold of the soundtrack?? i definately remember a couple of fuzz guitar monsters on there....

font class="post"1b,121b,121If you get the box set it comes with soundtracks for El Topo and Holy Mountian as CD's. I highly recomend it. It's only like $50 on Amazon.

Like mentioned, the bit about Jesus christ as well as spanish colonization, I especially like the Pantheon Bar and the uncle sam inside of it, and the man who can only conquer the mountain horizontally. A lot of it I think is pure mindfukery but a lot of it is meaningful, to me atleast. I was already interested in many of these things and the symbols and then I saw holy mountain and it was like meeting the father who has not been in my life.b,121b,121I am still eager to decipher the film more and plan on watching again, but if anyone wants to chat about it I'd be up for some emails or something.
i really hope his supposed next film "King Shot" comes out, that man needs to really get directing again. b, 21b, 21but yeah im suprised there hasn't been a Holy mountain/El Topo thread on hurrr before...

font class="post"1b, 21b, 21Actually, there have been many. Especially when the box set came out. b, 21b, 21h,121font class="post"1b, 21b, 21One of uncon's first posts was about holy mountain, or el topo.b,121b,121I really can't get with the dude killing the toads for the film, and the sequence with the dog fight towards the end. Those things aside though, it is a wild film that certainly stands out as being uniquely crafted.
