I don't usually do private gigs since I don't own mobile equipment but I've been approached to DJ a holiday office party for about 350 people working at a tech company I won't name (but it rhymes with "Flugel"). Five hours, with a disco theme (not my idea). b, 21b, 21What's a fair price to charge for those who spin on the office party circuit? b, 21b, 21Thanks.

$100/hour plus $200 flat setup/breakdown fee is reasonable. But for that company, you could definitely get more. Maybe an even $1000.

Just explain that you would be customizing a set for them, etc....

font class="post"1b,121b,121ABBA - Dancing Queen. b, 21b, 21h,121font class="post"1b,121b,121Charge them an extra $500 to play this song alone. b,121b,121b, 21That sounds like a pretty easy gig. although 5 hours of 70's hits? oof. Thank god for microwave. You'll probably have to play "Stayin' Alive" six or seven times. b, 21b, 21For such a forward-thinking company, that sure is a played-ass party theme idea. Unless they are going to build a huge party room that resembles the set of Soul Train.

font class="post"1b,121b,121I'm not sure what company you think I'm talking about...b, 21b, 21...but let me be more specific about the theme: as told to me, it's "Saturday Night Fever."b,121b,121Yeah. I know. b, 21b, 21The upside? b, 21b, 21I can play out "Boogie Shoes" which I genuinely love.b, 21b, 21And I'm not mad at ABBA. Let the Swedes live!b, 21b, 21Thanks for suggestions everyone.

    I see tremendous upside to this gig. You can go pretty deep with disco. Rarities go right alongside the Bee Gees at 120 BPM.b, 21b, 21b, 21object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" width="335" height="28" id="divplaylist"1param name="movie" value="http://www.divshare.com/flash/playlist?myId=5724394-e0e" /1embed src="http://www.divshare.com/flash/playlist?myId=5724394-e0e" width="335" height="28" name="divplaylist" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"1/embed1/object1

Charge them a decent flat rate but add a disclaimer $50 penalty fee for every dum ass drunk that comes and requests some shitty disco tunes... img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ehhzu7.gif" alt=""1/1

  • $1000+b,121b,1215 hours, plus supplying the equipment, plus flugle. Start at $1000 for sure.

  • No brainer in all directions:b,121charge 1200 and contract them to provide all equipment rental fees, you handle rental arrangements.b,121b,1215 hours of disco is easier than brewing tea my friend, disco soul, disco funk, rock disco, satin disco, pre 80's disco, dance songs with high hat rides that blend with disco, radio disco- this is your sat nite fevers and your abbas and your KC and your george mcrae, breakbeat disco as you might find on any ultimate breaks and beats comp and go one for one with, and disco gold like those uh duh's such as boogie oogie oogie and hot stuff/bad girls. play that last one when you want a bathroom break.

font class="post"1b,121b,121^^^What I'm talmabout!b,121b,121b,121For real, I hit 'em with a G quote plus extra depending on equipment. Sounds like they want to rent out a K-Town club which means they'll likely have a sound system already. I can just tote my turntables, invite a friend to help split the hours, and drop TK 12"s until my ears bleed.

  • real talk about the "g" quote. 1). it's a client that can afford it 2). it's corporate holiday party time, it's practically standard for deejay dudes to cake out. I'm hoping to do the same.
