font class="post"1b,121b,121It's relatively simple; guys here been searching in and from the US for longer than anybody else, and so have longer standing contacts who will hold on to the raers for them.b,121b,121Anyone estimate where the biggest accumulation of raers is? UK, Japan or US?b,121b,121I looked at the set sales this morning and, uh, bought the two latest Jazzman releases.b,121b,121 img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/breakface.gif" alt="" 21

Hey Kala, b,121b,121You probably are already up on this but if not....Gerald has a radio show/podcast that is great. You can get to it from the Jazzman website. They never fail to play some really obscure/great stuff.

font class="post"1b,121b,121C'mon Skel, you know that's fighting talk.

  • He needs to discount the non-selling stuff out of the "specials" area if they aren't selling, the same records can sit there for months on end and it gets fustrating to the point where I can't be arsed to check the site because I have a perception that it'll just be the same records for sale when I last looked (granted, it's worse when you only have a dozen odd 45's in that section).b,121b,121He could prob shift them on ebay quickly, esp with his rep. Maybe I will suggest this to him.

Please also tell him to delete all the sold items from the jazz 45s list; they have been there forever with the 'out of stock' tag.b,121b,121For anyone who never bought from the site: Jazzman sends with the utmost quickness and great packing. Highly recommended.

  • one thing that is funny, I bought a record form him and we exchanged a few emails about some new things we were into, I sent him a mp3 of one thing I was playing out that he had never heard and the next thing I know...he had found dude and reissued it! Dude doesnt waste any time!

Gerald is also a very nice person to deal with. Heat, knowledge and refined social skills are a rare combination. His knowledge goes far beyond just Funk 45s or Funk in general. I know people who've bought serious African heat from him and he also knows his Jazz and I'm not talking about only Organ combos. I'd never want to see his collection, I'd get depressed.

font class="post"1b,121b,121I did see it, around 2001.b,121b,121b,121 img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/melt.gif" alt="" 21b,121b,121I had to stop myself from asking him to sell me stuff, as it was his personal and he'd already told me nothing was for sale. The collection was well-rounded, with almost all genres covered. And of course, each one was mint.

font class="post"1b,121b,121Stateside, I would say it's Mike McFaddin... anyone that's been hyping rare groove since the eighties is core. Ditto on the same deal with quick head-nod re-ish from him as well.

Yep, Mike is a super dude but now he can't fit record deals into his surfer lifestyle........ img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" 21b,121b,121Talking more of a set sale regular raer list, honed to the high quality end (i.e. no CM)b,121b,121Who is out there?

What's Jazzman's reputation for taking care of the artists he reissues? I'm not suggesting he doesn't. I've just never heard much re: his rep on that one way or another.

font class="post"1b,121b,121considering most of all of his reissues are from the tapes, he obviously does the legwork and legal work required...

Maybe one of his associates can come on and tell us the policy.b,121b,121Unfortunately, the one Francis deleted his user id after the spat with Frank, so it won't be him.b,121b,121Perhaps Fryer can speak on it.....

"ultimately a colonialist"b,121b,121Interesting term to use here; you mind defining it for this context? You don't have to get into details, I'm just curious what a record colonialist looks like.

I find it hard to take kala seriously for some reason

  • I was under the impression that Jazzmans reissues were 100% legal and the interested parties were duly paid

  • Record colonialist conjures up images for me of a guy with a man blouse and george washington wig scoping out record swaps with a pirate monocular.
