Brian Henson is on board to direct. b,121b,121Written by Todd Berger from a story by Dee Austin Robertson and Berger, the story takes place in a world where humans and puppets co-exist, with the puppets viewed as second-class citizens. When the puppet cast of an '80s children's TV show called "The Happytime Gang" begins to get murdered one by one, a disgraced LAPD detective-turned-private eye puppet -- with a drinking problem, no less -- takes on the case. b,121b,121Brian Henson, Lisa Henson and Jason Lust are producing.b,121b,121Robertson will executive produce.b,121b,121This would not be the first time that Henson is delving into more adult fare. In 1982, the company made "The Dark Crystal," which featured a dark tone and, in one scene, nudity. But "Happytime" also will have an absurdist and comedic quality to it, comparable to Broadway's "Avenue Q," and will take cues from such movies as "L.A. Confidential" and "Pulp Fiction."b,121b,121Berger, repped by the Kohner Agency and Kaplan/Perrone, wrote "Epic Proportions" for End Game Entertainment with John Landis directing and is writing the DVD project "Kung Fu Panda: Secrets of the Furious Five" for DreamWorks Animation. /i1b,121b,121I'm down for this.

    Judging by that picture, the private eye is evidently either Statler or Waldorf (I forget who was who) from i1The Muppet Show[/i].

    b,121b,121Eh, I think parents are getting too sensitive these days... Dark Crystal was "dark" and weird... but definitely has always been considered a kid's movie as far as I know. It freaked me out but I loved it.b,121b,121b,121I'm curious about this new project...

    b,121b,121A nekkid body made of felt?b,121b,121Seriously, Henson worked "adult" long before that...there were Muppet characters on the first season of Saturday Night Live, and that definitely had a more "grownup" tone to it than the Cookie Monster.b,121b,121(It wasn't exactly Henson's best work either, but that's a whole nother story.)
