I've been applying for some high professional jobs latetly, been wondering the procedure they may go through to find the truth about a man, I had a previous firing way back when, it didn't want it to hurt my present job ventures.b,121b,121The latest application I've been filling out asks for THREE credit references, what the fak!!

I got fired too and kind of worried but the only thing they are allowed to ask is stuff that verifies that you were in fact employed there. They can't say "oh he was a sack of shit and we hated him". WEll, the can say it I guess, but the caller can't ask about that.b,121b,121In California anyways.b,121b,121I think.

font class="post"1b,121b,121Usually the larger the company, the more structured the questions.b,121b,121And larger companies are also very careful about what info the divulge as the ex-employer.b,121b,121Questions about attendance, whether or not you are a "team player", self motivated, gets along with others, etc. are typical.b,121b,121I almost always get "Would you hire them back given the opportunity"b,121b,121As far as the reason you left, be as honest as possible....very rarely does an employer say anything bad about an ex-employee...if you were fired I might get creative like "Terminated through mutual agreement".....after all, you did agree to leave after you got fired. b,121b,121Nvertheless, if your last job terminated you, be as vague about it as possible without lying.

I told the truth about getting fired. I said "I got fired" and they said "Why?" and I said "F*ck them HOs, thats why."

font class="post"1b,121b,121They can say whatever they want but most will only verify when you worked for liability reasons. The best thing you can do is have a friend call your ex employer and see what they say. Their response will help you spin your reason for leaving/being fired. If you left on good terms just be honest or use something like "left for personal reasons like education, family affairs, etc."

font class="post"1b,121b,121That's become the norm. Good credit shows that you're responsible. The practice is often criticized because people's credit can be messed up for a number of reasons that aren't necessarily the persons fault. Divorce, illness, etc. Still, a lot of people have fucked up credit because they spend to much.

font class="post"1b,121b,121Yeah this is the truth. One of my first jobs was working for a professional investigators where we checked the background records of people joining major banking corporations. You could basically tell when someone had left under suspect circumstances as the reference would just be confirmation of start and leave dates. Most companies would rather take that route than risk getting involved in some kind of legal issue over an employee plus they tend to think that it's not their problem anymore.b,121b,121I did get the odd one where a company would inform you that the prospective employee had been fired for having sex in the office or let go after camping in the basement but these were sadly few and far between.b,121b,121I'm a bit confused about the credit issue - in the UK most companies just run your name and details through the standard credit check sites. I would assume that this exists in the US as well?

font class="post"1b,121b,121The credit thing is crazy. People get denied a job because they have bad credit. But damn, most of them I feel are trying to gain employment so they can finally start fixing their credit.

  • We had someone call about an employee I fired. We don't get into any specifics and if she hadn't lied about how long she worked here she would have been fine.

  • I always thought, at least in NYS, it was only legal for the old company to confirm you worked there and for how long.
