I found this on the excellent a href="http://combandrazor.blogspot.com/" target="_blank"1comb & razor/a1 blog. I don't really know much about hip hop in general and didn't really like most stuff I heard in African clubs, on the street or on the radio while living there.b,121There were a some exceptions and I just tried to find some of them on youtube...b,121b,121this is H2O which have some great stuff but also some lesser, cheesier titles.b,121I generally love how they incorporate traditional instruments.b,121b,121forward the first 40 seconds or just enjoy this as an introduction to what West African TV looks like:b,121object width="425" height="344"1param name="movie" value=""1/param1param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"1/param1embed src="" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"1/embed1/object1b,121b,121H2O use some of their video clips to educate kids about issues like sexual exploitation:b,121object width="425" height="344"1param name="movie" value=""1/param1param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"1/param1embed src="" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"1/embed1/object1b,121b,121This is my favorite track by them, it's not on Youtube and can't be embeddedb,121so please use this link:b,121a href="http://www.musicvideos.the-real-africa.com/benin/h2o_assouka_biewe.html" target="_blank"1HsO -assouka biewe/a1b,121b,121The Sakpata Boys are pretty bad ass... don't miss checking this out:b,121a href="http://www.musicvideos.the-real-africa.com/benin/sakpata_boys_vodounvi.html" target="_blank"1Sakpata Boys -vodounvi/a1 b,121b,121More common sounding but kinda fun and also from Benin: Projet Class:b,121object width="425" height="344"1param name="movie" value=""1/param1param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"1/param1embed src="" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"1/embed1/object1

this dude in Munich gave me a mix of African hip hop a couple years ago. I remember it being suprisingly good.

  • I ride hard for this comp from Senegal: a href="http://www.nomadicwax.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=41" target="_blank"1African Underground Vol. 1/a1 b,121b,121Really liked the Shiffai and BMG44 tracks. Don't know if you came across any of these guys Frank, but maybe you can cosine on them.b,121b,121I also have a comp called Africa Raps, which is pretty good, but I haven't gotten nearly as into it.b,121b,121Lastly, just wanna give a big up to the blog Frank shouted out, Comb & Razor. Been a favorite of mine for a few.

  • Thanks for this Frank. I've found it quite difficult to track this kind of stuff down on the internet. I've got a stack of Senegalese hiphop tapes, but I have no idea what most of them are.b,121b,121I've been bumping a cassette of M.I's stuff that a colleuge hooked me up with for a couple of weeks now - although It doesn't get a great reaction here as it's in English.
