Inspired by a masterful 12" instrumental remix of Third World's version of 'Now That We've Found Love' (by unsung and oft-clonned bubble perm UK jazz-funk guru Paul Hardcastle), my mind wandered to the wonders of reggae found in the main pop charts, particularly from yesteryear. b,121b,121Here's my 4 favourites:b,121b,121Maxi Priest - Strollin' On (chart #32, 1986)b,121Janet Kay - Silly Games (chart #2, 1979)b,121Barry Biggs - Side Show (chart #3, 1976)b,121Black Slate - Amigo (chart #11, 1980)b,121b,121Dub it is not, for sure.b,121b,121Please rep some pop reggae hits that have rocked your world.

  • First thing that springs to mind is 'My Boy Lollipop' by Millie Small, although it is probably more Ska.b,121b,121Went to #2 in both the UK & US according to Wikipedia

Pass The Dutchie - Musical Youth was the first that sprang to mind. b,121b,121Youth Of Today was one of the first albums I ever requested off my parents.

  • Double Barrell

  • The Tamlins - Hang on to your love. b,121b,121Sade Cover. On the Love Divine LP. Have the LP is anyone is interested in hearing this. Hard for anyone to do a Sade cover justice though this is okay.

  • Third World- Now that we found Love (The 12" mix I dig)b,121Eddy Grant - Electric Avenue

BTW Musicaal Yoot had it down. "I'm Sixteen"1still makes me laugh.b,121b,121"Now that I'm two times eight,b,121I can pull my own weight".b,121b,121Thus neatly encapsulating those oft uneasy bedfellows of machismo and mathematics. Genius.b,121b,121Good job Pi isn't the watershed age. He wouldn't have finished the line yet.b,121b,121Isaac Newton had a similar problem, when he was asked to participate in an open mic night against Leibniz (I think this was how Calculus was invented).

font class="post"1b,121b,121Yeah, I always had issue with "Police Officer"1because if you recall, and you are no doubt verbatim familiar with the song, the Police Office only recognised him as the originator of "Cockney Translator" when he drew out his Parker and wrote his name for the officer.b,121b,121Yet, i1earlier in the the song/i1, when being questioned about the contents of his boot and ting, he's asked to identify himself, which he does, but with no recognition from the officer.b,121b,121"Well,Wha wha wha what's your name then son?"b,121My name Smiley Cultureb,121"Yeah, Where do you think you're coming from lad?"b,121From seeing me motherb,121"What's the registration number of the car then?"b,121I can't rememberb,121"What you got in the boot then son?"b,121A cassette recorder. You have to hand it to der Shagmeister for vaguely JA stylings in a fashion that is as catchy as it is painful to behold.b,121b,121The wife has got the 5 year old coming out withb,121b,121"Dem call me Mista Boombastic,b,121Jelly fantastic,b,121touch her pon di back she say me Mista Rrrrrroooo, Rrrrrroooo, Rrrrrroooo... mantic"b,121b,121He couldn't say R's until recently and he's getting that "Esther-Rantzen-Sausages-talking-dog"1ting down pat now.

Please to define "Pop Reggae". b,121b,121b,121I get Musical Youth, and most of the other UK acts, but other names mentioned are just people who've crossed over, and had pop hits. So I guess pop reggae songs? Or pop reggae acts?

Crowd around the table went from a scattering of gaunt heavy metal trainspotters to Maxi and and a dozen full dreads, in the time it took a gold-toot smile to send man scuttle back to de chess club.b,121b,121Keen not to be intimidated, and sporting a Phil Oakey haircut and cricket jumper WITHOUT A HINT OF IRONY, I went on to be the new dawn on the horizon of academic pool.b,121b,121For 5 minutes.b,121b,121DEAL.
