I just had a request to provide the music list for a children's carnival-themed event here at good-ol' WGBH. I have no fusking idea what that's all about. Outside my wheelhouse. So, what are your children listening to these days? I'm looking for relatively high-energy, mostly instrumental if possible. No f-bombs.b,121b, 21Holler at your incredibly img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/game02vy9.gif" alt="" 21 boy.

  • Play anything that's high energy and catchy. Really most 6 year olds don't care. My kids love the Disney stuff but will like almost anything I put on that has a good beat.b,121You're thinking about it too much DB, just play Top 40 stuff you like.

My daughters are into Gorillaz, MIA, Santogold, and basically anything that might be featured on a greatest hits of the 80s compilation.

Have the High School Musical people put out CD's? It seems like that shit is the hot fire among the grade school set. b,121b,121I say bust out all your Raffi raers and school those young bucks.

Why dumb it down for "The Children"?

  • Its funny when I DJ weddings because it's always the six and unders that start moving first. If its got a good beat they'll move. As kids get older they start to get self conscious and worry about looking cool. Its too bad we can't stay unselfconscious our whole lives! Most grown ups (at least in the US) need liquor or drugs to loosen up and hit the dance floor.b,121b,121I did go to one wedding where the DJ was so bad that even the four years olds were standing there with their arms crossed. img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nagl2.gif" alt="" 21

font class="post"1b,121b,121So true. Back when my wife was a girlfriend, she practically had to drag my ass onto the dancefloor--and this is at a proper jazz/funk/soul/latin party. I had to knock back a couple first AND wait for enough people to hit the floor.b,121b,121Anyway, I digress.b,121b,121My niece loves Hanna Montana.

I mentioned this in a thread a couple of weeks ago, check out Baby Loves Hip-Hop Presents The Dino 5. Produced by Prince Paul, features Chali 2NA, Ladybug Mecca, Rahzel, and Wordsworth. It's a story with songs, so it's more of a CD for a car trip than a party, but it's pretty great. Prince Paul's music is perfect for kiddie ears. My kids love this to death, you can check samples on iTunes:b,121b,121img src="http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51OUXPzHfSL._SL500_AA240_.jpg"1

As a kid i had plenty of childrens tv and listened to kids records until around the first grade. b,121b,121After that I listened to what adults did. Birthday parties had regular disco & r&b. b,121b,121They never played Alvin and The Chipmunks Rap records for us.

My 4.5 and 2 year really like anything with a driving beat, especially digging Replacements and Stooges right now. Shit is hilarious. If I throw some Smokey on they give me the gas face, like its "Turn the soft batch shit off now, Pops". Go-Gos drives the lils wild too.

  • What about They Might Be Giants last 3 cds?
