im not realy up on the blues but i want to be.. i want some real heavy guitar with not much vocal....i been on this jimmy page craze for a while and im tryin to find some stuf that he was influenced by...

    b,121b,121I said great blues instros were RARE, not NONEXISTENTb,121b,121b/wb,121b,121Not only was one of the records I mentioned by Albert Collins, but it was a repackaging of (mostly) instrumental sides he recorded in the early sixties for various labels. It doesn't include "Cookin' Catfish," unfortunately - I also recommend that one. I play it often at my soul nights. It appears on an Imperial album, Love Can Be Found Anywhere (Even In A Guitar), under another title.

    Freddie King had a bunch of great records from the 60's to the mid 70's, with some big instrumentals like "Hideaway", "San-Ho-Zay", and "The Stumble,". Huge influence on the Brit Blues scene and SRV as well. There are a bunch of greatest hits you can start with. Here is a pretty bad-ass clip from 1970:b,121b,121

    I'd absolutely second the Freddie King. Also add Mississippi John Hurt, Lightning Hopkins, Free Chicken N' Beer by John Lee Hooker, and Charlie Musslewhite for some boogie blues.
