What a coincidence- just yesterday I was randomly perusing pics of Metallica members looking all old now. I thought of starting a thread here, but it just seemed mean-spirited. That shopping pic is pretty hilarious, though.

b,121b,121Musically, sound quality wise, or both? I haven't heard it yet (link?) but am curious to see what's left.b,121b,121Also, what the hell has Jason Newsted being doing as of late?

b,121b,121If you some Googling, you'll definitely find some links to blogs that have upped it. While it's nowhere near a Master of Puppets level, it's the first thing they've done in 20 years that I've dug.

b,121b,121b,121Yeah, maybe terrible is a strong word, but people were talking about how Rubin was going to take them back to when they were good. I guess I was thinking Ride the Lighting or Master of Puppets good, not And Justice for All good.

b,121b,121b,121The sound quality is good. I like the straightforward sound Rubin goes for with metal bands. If this had came out after the black album, it would have been a positive step, but now I think it's too little, too late.
with all of that money and time and experience you would think they could at least come close to imitating thr first 3 records b,121but i guess the angst and fire is gone and was washed away with the moneyb,121b,121the last megadeth release was heavy as FUCKKb,121and Slayer continues to create aural evil violence

b,121b,121I did the usual searching yesterday and couldn't find anything, but I'll look again.

b,121b,121I don't think it's terrible, it's definitely better than anything they've done since the Black Album, which I wasn't a big fan of either. It would be ridiculous to expect them to go back to "Master Of Puppets" level 20+ years later, that is genre defining stuff. But for a bunch of millionaire 45 year olds, it's pretty good stuff. At least Kirk gets to solo again:b,121b,121

b,121b,121b,121I'm sayin'. I haven't following Metallica too closely since the Black album, but I did see the video for St. Anger and was appalled at the lack of a guitar solo. How are you gonna have the illest metal soloist alive in your band and not give him some of that heavy powerful metal you got going on right here? I know solos were are out of style, but still. You're Metallica. Fusk what the kids are doing. b,121b,121b,121I heard a cut off the new album on the Loop here in Chicago and I wasn't mad at it. It wasn't amazing, and it started off a little tepid but once it got rolling it was alright.

b,121b,121Am I the only one here who rides for this album? It's a step down from its predecessors, but I still think it's a very good album.b,121b,121(Also, in what may prove to be an even more unpopular opinion, I ain't mad at the drum sounds on that album. I thought they worked very well for the style of drumming Lars was busting out back then.)
