Wheedle's GrooveSunday, 1:45 pm - 3:30 pm @ Miller Lite Blues Stage at Mural AmphitheatreLast year's Light In the Attic Records compilation, Wheedle's Groove, reminded the world of Seattle's contribution to funk and soul music of the 60s and 70s. This Bumbershoot-exclusive performance brings together all of the era's prime movers, along with Wheedle's compiler DJ Mr. Supreme and Dynomite D, who will spin classic 45s from their world-famous archives. This is proof that Seattle's reputation as a musical hotbed reaches much further back than Nirvana.Aside from such legendary figures as Ray Charles and Quincy Jones, Seattle was home to a flourishing funk and soul scene that was, until now, nearly forgotten. Previously known only to those who heard the tracks back in the day, the artists on Wheedle's Groove reunite for a notable Bumbershoot-only appearance. Artists such as Robbie Hill, Overton Berry, Pat Wright (Total Experience Gospel Choir), Bernadette Bascom, and Ron Buford will perform their classic songs while DJ Mr. Supreme and Dynomite D open your ears to their vast and world-famous collection of funk and soul 45s. In addition, these major players have recently joined forces once again for a new album, recorded by Kearney Barton ("Louie, Louie") and produced by Dynomite and Supreme, slated to appear in early 2006. For those that can't wait to sample the raw funk and neo-soul of the unreleased album, this performance offers a rare sneak preview that should not be missed.
