mortgage/ tax related question

hay soulsturts,i'm filing my 2006 tax form...using the 1040 EZthat year i bought a house and started paying a mortgagecan i take a deduction for that? how to?thank you plenty all knowing soultrut massive-t

    For 2006? Did you have an extension?
    There is a program called Tax Estimator that is free where you can do a mock filing and get your estimated return etc calculated for you. Then I would download the TurboTax program. They will walk you through questions like did you buy a house, did you change your address, did you get married, did you make charitable donations etc.
    But it would not be a bad look to go to an accountant, like even a street corner type chain one- it might cost you $50 and be worth the effort especially if you are putting money into the property you bought, or better yet if you are doing that, and the work is so-called green...you will want to get the green coming to you.
