So I got that Billy Always on Waylo from '82. Kinda nice LP with Willie Mitchell at the helm, I recently saw an auction for another LP on the label by one of my more recent favorite artists Otis Clay. What I wanna know is whats the discograpghy on thisa label? Did Willie Mitchell handle all the production here a la Hi records? and what LP's on Waylo are good.MEMPHIS STAND UP!

I believe Mitchell owned the label. (Lynn White was also a Waylo artist - I think, but I'm not positive, that a group called Lanier & Co. were on that label as well.) For a while (in '82) they were distributed by Peter Pan, a famed children's label who was trying to expand into more adult music.

Billy Always'"Didn't We Do It" was a minor hit, and is a deep soul classic. Those vocal gymnastics sound like a bluesier Luther Vandross - or Freddie Jackson meets Johnnie Taylor.
