Crisis in Burma

I, for one, am just absolutely astounded at how the "official" death rate went from 350 --> 2500 to the most recent announcement by the gov't that it's around 22,500, with more than 40,000 still missing. Somber wishes of safety to those missing and homeless, especially if anyone here has family out there. And, oh yeah, fuck the junta.

    I think they quickly realized their emergency response capibilities were very overwhelmed and knew that to actually get the help they needed, the true numbers had to be reported.

    closed dictatorships have a knack for underreporting problems, until they decide they could use some help after all. Help = outsiders seeing whats really going on = bad for dictatorships control.
