In my experience, you don't even have to 'look' like a DJ, just say it with enough conviction (or go the opposite direction, the 'sucks to be workin' vibe)and you can waltz in anywhere. With or without record bag or gear.
This is crazy true... I used to go to all these bars with my friends band when i was like 17. I'd say... im doing sound tonight. And I drank underage... for like 3 years on that... well... whenever my friends band played.
Ahhhh and the cunty nature of Australia's bus drivers is finally revealed to the world. I would have totally broken character-
"EXCUSE ME but did you just fucking whistle at me like i'm a dog?"
I had a driver in front of me pull the "If you can't speak ENGLISH then you shouldn't live in this COUNTRY!" to a sweet old asian woman in front of me. I stepped in and said "i'm pretty sure she is saying she wants to go to china town" (which the bus went through) and she nodded and smiled. Jerks!
