I've always wondered what electric piano Fela played. To me it sounds like a Hohner Pianet with amp distortion - anyone know?

    Fela used a bunch of keyboards

    but his main classic electric sound was the RMI electric piano

    i have a hohner (not pianet) that i recognize the sound from LOADS of afrobeat tunes (it has the plinkiness but also the sustained sound you hear alot)

    Oh yeah, the RMI! I forgot about that one.

    Which Hohner do you have? I know there are several models. When I get the next crib going I'm going to do an electric piano room.

    Like dubious said, it think he's using a lot of different pianos. After all, his catalogue does span over a lot of years so that makes sense. Sometimes it sounds like a distorted pianet, sometimes like the RMI electra, sometimes like a farfisa organ and so on.

    I got this puppy from a friend last year:



    Fela must have been using this as well. It's definitely got his mid-seventies keyboard sound.

    what would your guess be on "expensive shit" era fela?
