3. Fatback vs. Harvey slap fest
Take a bong hit and dig out your copy of Dookie.
Nah. Maybe for page 6. But overall it's Harvey vs. 10+ others.
Seriously, there' some good stuff in there. Including the esteemed Dr. Wang.
Take your time.
Yeah, next time I am home sick I will give it a read through.
Not slaps, just friendly nudges.
Sgt. Peppers is an over rated LP that was loved by the critics, bought by the masses and actually played less than most other Beatle LP's.
Gen-Xer's are desperate to prove that the music they grew up with is as good as what the generation before them had. In many cases it's superior.
Radio is less racially intergrated in 2008 than it was in 1968.
To you.
In 1968 it was not uncommon for a FM station to play a set that would include Led Zeppelin, The Chambers Brothers, Frank Zappa, Sly & The Family Stone, The Rolling Stones and some Motown.
Plaese to tell me where this exists today....certainly not here in Dallas.
And you think that's as diversified as what I described above??
I don't think so.
in Detroit the top 40 station basically plays the same songs as the 'urban' station - with the addition of that emo rock & ballad crap the kids these days like.
the end result is that you hear the same 2 alicia keys songs over and over as you scan the dial.
1. Webbie - Independent (w/ Lil' Boosie & Lil Phat)
2. Lil' Will - My Dougie (w/ Lil' Spain)
3. DJ Khaled - I'm So Hood (w/ T-Pain, Trick Daddy, Rick Ross & Plies)
4. Alicia Keys - Like You'll Never See Me Again
5. Lil Shine - Check Out My Lean
6. Playaz Circle - Duffle Bag Boy (w/ Lil' Wayne)
7. Justin Timberlake - Until The End Of Time
8. J. Holiday - Bed
9. Birdman - Championship Pop Bottles (w/ Lil' Wayne)
10. Dream - Shawty Is Da Shid
All R&B?? Top 40??
I'm talking about a time('68-'72) when Marvin Gaye & Commander Cody would be played back to back..Gil-Scott Heron's "Winter In America" followed by NRPS "Panama Red"...there are NO commercial radio stations today that will play intergrated artists AND intergrated music styles as was the norm back then.
There may be some College Stations today that pull that off, but we're talking about COMMERCIAL radio.
What's this?
I'm really not sure what you think "intergrated" to mean?
Urban music isn't just done by black folks. And yes, the distinctions between the different styles of urban music are far more pronounced than you apparently realize.
But even on the modern rock stations...you get White Stripes, then Gorillaz, then Matisyahu...not really my cup of tea, but there's certainly diversity there.
This is your proof...........
If they threw in Cross Canadian Ragweed, Foo Fighters and U2 then you might be getting close to what I'm talking about.
Oh no, the diversity you speak of is now spread across 2 channels rather than just 1. Time to destroy your radio for not pretending that people from urban and rock crowds want to hang out together. Woodstock, baby...forever.
I was hoping you would add more of that wonderful Boomer narcissism to the thread.
Shut up. You were killing it over there.
Yep. That's what killed it. That Tubular Bells shit was hard to top.
A) Having started the thread yourself I have to assume you hold Sgt. Pepper's in much higher regard than I do.
B) If you had copied my whole quote as now seen above instead of taking it out of context you'll see it was far from narcissistic, and stated that I think some newer music is indeed superior to a lot of Baby Boomer swill.
C) Welcome back.....how was your two weeks in wussyland??
Boring. You act like I hate ya'll. I was just sitting here thinking that I would probably blap Maureen Dowd.
