Is my 1200 dying?

Just noticed some crazy wavering listening to a record, and I noticed the pitch on my 1200 is all over the place, even without a record on the platter. You can see the little pitch control lights jumping all over the place. Anybody dealt with this?http://www.zshare.net/video/61021353d5e2ab/

    yeah, it usually gets worse when the pitch is close to -8 or +8 . I had one fixed a couple of years and its worked perfectly since. Apparently the pitch has like a carbon sheet or something and it gets worn out afetr awhile. At least that's what the tech told me.Good thing about 1200's is that they have almost all the replacement parts out there for sale.

    not to completely thread-jack but how much are replacement RCA outs and are they easy enough to install that i could just to it myself? right now i have a different rca end electrical-taped to the end of the fucked wire, and if i move my ground wire AT ALL, the left channel cuts out.


    other than that is seems to be working great!

    Thanks everyone. Not totally clear on what this means, under the platter I only see voltage selection. However, pulling and reseating the platter seems to have cleared this up, for now. But I know it will come back as soon as I get back to work on the mix Im doing right now. Anyone else?

    1200's don't die, they multiply. Them schitts are like indestructable tanks.

    There used to be a gang of good 1200 sites on the net. Hit up google or if I think of any I'll hook up a link. Maybe try the folks at KAB Audio. That dude is the Maven of the 1200's.

    you can use any rca cables you want. I went to radio shack and bought a set of stereo rca cables male to male and cut off the connectors at one end and strip the end of the cables. I then opened up the turntable and looked at how the cables are attached. Then using a soldering iron I heat up the existing connection to remove the bad cables then soldered my new cables to where the old ones were. I didn't go all crazy and put in gold tipped rca cables or anything but I am sure you can do that too.

    very simple to do.


    I have replaced tone arms as well. That is a little more difficult to do but it is possible if you have a little bit of soldering knowledge.

    your best bet would be to use contact spray cleaner in pitch control lever ($8 at radio shack). It is most likely dirty and giving a false reading to the motor.

    Thanks, ill try that. I dont know if you chcked the video I upped, but it was zero'd out. Would the dirt override the quartz lock or whatever?
