what are some of your favourite Ray Bryant joints ?I have a feeling that "Up Above the Rock" isn't even close to his best? eventhough that one is a killer also.

Just like the guy says on Bryant's biggest hit, "Madison Time"...HOLD IT RIGHT THERE!
"Up Above The Rock" is a staple of my soul nights, and someone is usually asking me what the artist/title is. I cannot stop raving about "U.A.T.R.," it's just a well-done song.
Other good Ray Bryant tracks: "Little Susie" (Part 2) (Columbia) "Madison Time" (Columbia) (featuring a voiceover from Eddie Morrison telling the audience how to do the Madison...heard in the movie Hairspray) "Monkey Business" (from his Cadet album Gotta Travel On)
I never heard Up Above The Rock 'cept for the Kool G. Rap sample but I do have the one w/the Roman numerals. Need to listen to it again when I get a chance but I remember it having one nice song on there.
He does a great song which (if my memory serves me correctly) is called "Andalusian Nights" or something to that effect. It's on the blue record with the artsy photo of the bridge.
I actually could use a HIGH QUALITY version MP3 of "Up Above The Rock." The one I have is 128 and I don't feel like searching for the vinyl.
"Sound Ray" is pretty cool. There's versions of "Song For My Father" and "Con Alma" and the title track knocks pretty hard. The green oscilloscope wave cover is one of my favorite covers, too

oh yeah! I forgot about this album....
and I'm with cosmo...please to post a high quality mp3 of up above....plaese...
I can't find it but htere is one fromt he 70's (I think) on blue note with a bridge on the cover that's a nice jazzy LP. Sorry so vague, I'm just now realizing my filing system is goofed!

I looked it up: * Ray Bryant - In The Cut (Cadet CA 50052) - 1974. Dope record, and yeah the song "Andalusian Nights" is the shit.

That's Rusty, not Ray
A huge discography!
Sideman dates on lot of Prestige and related dates. Massive.
As a leader, I like his stuff on Sue and Cadet, but you only need a couple of each. They get redundant. I also like the one Mizell Bros record he did.

I was reading the titles...like...wtf? haha...I thought that was rusty...

That's a slept-on track.
