...is actually a surprisingly good LP.
Ivpicked it up a few days ago based on both the ultra cheesy cover and seeing it on the Black Vinyl Addict's website. Had to/ just carry it in my trunk for a couple days (work got me home a whole lot less than I wanna be)
Last night I threw it on the turntable expecting the worst but right off the bat I was joyfully shocked with the first track "Funk Yourself To death", a mid-tempo early 80's funk track a la Frakie Beverly and Maze with a whole lotta keyboard synth. Homeboy's vocals are wonderful as well. a nice soulful voice a la Charlie Wilson with slightly more bass.
The only downside of this album are the ballad type songs which border more on jazz vocal than R&B but outside of two such tracks the rest of the LP is pure feel good early 80's soul music with just a subtle hint of a gospel vibe.
I give this LP 4 out of 5 Jheri's
