nevermind, forgot i just bought a new 8-track player a couple weeks ago. i like what im hearing! also picked up bobbi humphrey - fancy dancer. why is it that finding something good in a pile of 8-tracks is 1000% more likely than finding something good in a pile of records? smaller demand? more people with good taste preferred 8-tracks?

whats the deal with this tracklist? Direct Me and B Minor are on here twice...is it like that on the LP or is it some 8-track filler shit?

I haven't heard this LP, but Brown Sugar is a good album. "Good" as opposed to being great one, however. I remember it being a little overproduced for my taste. I think I need to sit down and revisit this one. She has some great singles though. You might find them on one of those 50s-60s Los Angeles soul comps.

I got rid of Brown Sugar, it was way too uneven and just didn't do much for me (still have "Dance to the Music" on 45 though). I also have some Columbia 45 from the 60s and didn't think too much of it.

I do still have Direct Me but don't remember it at all, perhaps its time to revisit. Always been curious about her grailpiece tax-scam LP.

  • i like this record so much i dont even know the tracklist. i just play it.

i dont have this lp, but thats exactly the way i feel about a lot of albums...if it sounds good, you dont refer back to the tracklist, you just set the needle at the beginning and let it ride

8-track filler shit. Ampex (who distributed Lizard) did this with a lot of their eight-tracks...if it didn't quite fill the tape, then they'd repeat certain songs more than once.

I bought the album this week, and it's a solid soul-funk workout, recommended!
