Tracks That Rock the Party

I've got a DJ gig next week and I need a couple suggestions from ya'll. It'll be a decent crowd, willing to have fun and get down, but they probably won't wanna hear my obscure funk and jazz all night. A friend hooked me up with his Microwave and now all I need is a grip of mp3s. If everyone can suggest 1 or 2 tracks that are guaranteed to rock any party, it would be much appreciated. Any genre is cool as long as people dig it.

And clearly making a sincere effort to connect himself. Let him try and see what comes of it...everybody has to fuck up and learn from it sometimes...damn, why do you gotta be such a dick jaymack? Give him a song and see what he can do...he's probably rockin some lil house party where nobody cares about smooth transitions as much as hearing something to make their ass move...don't hate, EDUCATE.

    Funkin for Jamaica-Tom Brown
    Take your time-Sos Band
Stay Fly Diplo Remix-36 mafia vs Diplo (check the rub's site)

  • Prince - Kiss
Rob Base & DJ EZ Rock - It Takes Two
    Kelis - Milkshake
Sir Mix-A-Lot - Baby Got Back
Gnarls Barkley - Crazy (possibly, maybe not)
    Justin Timberlake - Sexy Back
    BEP - My Humps
Dexys Midnight Runners - Come On Eileen

Those are all obvious ones, but I have to add that I played a wedding earlier this evening and this one actually got most of the people dancing:

    Television: See No Evil

  • Jackson Sisters- I believe in Miracles
    JBS- Blow your head
    Sylvester-Do you wanna funk
Harold Melvin- Dont leave me this way 12"version (slow but heats up
Kool and the gang - Get down on it
    Barkays- holy Ghost
Gap Band - Dropped a Bomb on you
Jimmy Castor bunch- Its just begun
    Lyn collins -think
    Aretha-rock steady
Chaka-Aint nobody, I'm every woman (chcks love this song
Bt express- Do it till you are satisfied
eric b rakim- paid in full (coldcut mix)
Grandmaster Flash melle mel- White lines
    sugar hill gang- rappers delight
    chic-good times

Cosign on Funkin for Jamaica and any Prince or Michael jackson

Most of these tracks may be pretty played out but for most people they have a degree of familiarity and doing more mainstream gigs (or weddings) familiarity is the key

as for 80 tunes if you can work them in
New order Blue Monday and Eurhythmics- Sweet Dreams are unfuckwithable floor fillers

Go direct a short film about the effects of commercialism on the id and let a true player shine.

    LOL

I pray that you are not a DJ, dolo.

  • This record never fails:

I almost got the dj booth knocked over on this track. This track should be a no brainer this weekend.

  • Hey,
I encourage you to spend more time partying- it will give you good idea about what sort of stuff gets the average crowd going. I didn't spend a lot of time in clubs when I started dj'ing and I ended up asking questions like yours. A lot of people get tired of hearing questions because they are are indicative of a failure to put in work- whether that may be going to clubs/parties and hearing how dj's rock their parties or searching online at record stores for obvious party rockers.
With that said, here's a few sure-shots that are worth having in your Microwave crate.
Snoop - Gin & Juice, Ain't No Fun et al.
Biggie - Juicy, Big Poppa et al.
Warren G - Regulate (good for transitions in tempo)... i often cut the power on the deck and let the previous song die out... then drop regulate and watch their faces go from confused to euphoric.
Rob Base - It takes two
Tone Loc - Wild Thing, Bust A Move
Junior Senior - Move Your Feet
    Cajmere - The Percolator
    Freak Nasty - Da Dip
    BBD - Poison
Outkast - ATLiens, Hey Ya, The Way You Move, Ms. Jackson
Rick James - Give It To Me Baby
Cindi Lauper - Girls Just Want To Have Fun

    Rock Shit
Queen - Another One Bites The Dust
    Beck - Where It's At
    Modest Mouse - Float On
    Sublime - What I Got

    New Shit
    stronger & crank dat

    Good luck!
