On the large military bases they have all kinds of fast food restaurants. It's not a surprise.

  • One day when I was bored at work, I wrote a poem about a McDonald's opening in Baghdad.

Right after the invasion in 2003 Pizza Hut and Burger King opened up stores in a British base in Basra, Southern Iraq.

By 2005 there were 23 fast food joints on 16 U.S. bases with 25 more planned.

Now trops can also pick from Subway, Popeye's, Taco Bell, and of course, there's Starbucks.

All of which is highly ironic because when the war first ended Bush said he wanted Iraq to have the greatest services in the Middle East, and Bremer and some young Republicans wanted to bring free market captialism to the country, and the only place that's actually happened is on the U.S. military bases.
