Joe Jackson-Stepping Out action inspired me to throw up an 80s pop tune appreciation post. Some of the choices off the top of my head: Speak on it!

"Tears" man oh man i love this song (and the slow version is great as well!)
It's just coincidence
Well you can talk that way, but i have to say,I don't believe in it
It was the chill of chance, i decided to dance the days away
And i wasn't worried at all
Sneaking through the back door
No, I wasn't worried at all
Dreams are what you live for
Waiting for the light to turn green
Carry me home
To the kindest eyes that i've ever seen
Carry me home
Well can you tell me how will it be now
how will it be
Can you tell me how will it be now
How will it be?
well we were younger then
And the days were long and slow
But were we wiser then?
I couldn't say, I wouldn't know
But i wasn't worried at all
i had someone to run to
And i wasn't worried at all
I knew which way the wind blew
Counting out the chaos in bloom
Carry me home
And I watched the sinners spin round the room
Carry me home
Well can you tell me how will it be now
how will it be
Can you tell me how will it be now
How will it be?
In a cold world
How will it be?
In the real world
How will it be?
In a lonely world
How will it be?
Will the ghosts just stop
Following me
All now drawn into the sun
He was the only one
In the real world
How will it be?
In a cold cold world
How will it be?
Beck and call
Beg and crawl
How will it be?
Will the ghosts just stop
Following me
All now drawn into the sun
He was the only one
And so, i remember you
I remember the days and the thousands of ways you pulled me through
And dreamed of all the things you've seen
Of all the faces and all of the places you have been
And now you have no phone and you have no name and you have no number
And it comes to the end in the blink of an eye and it makes me wonder
and Crowded House "Don't Dream it's Over" still gives me goosebumps
Back when this song came out, I used to call the local "modern rock" station and request it every night.
Good times....
PS Cosign on World Party, Tears for Fears and may I add ....
i knew i forgot something
"under the milkyway" is my shit
Are you serious?
Weren't they a 90's group?
They're definitely influenced by 80s open tuning guitar. Very chimey.
Yep, and these too...
I love the 80s even though ppl like to front on the shit like they weren't buggin out to it at the time. Seriously, it's not often that ppl at a party not enjoying themselves to 80s music. If they ain't then the must not party.
1972
I think "Invisible Touch" is the group's undisputed masterpiece.
It's an epic meditation on intangibility, at the same time it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Christie, take off the robe.
Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. Sabrina, remove your dress.
In terms of lyrical craftsmanship and sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Sabrina, why don't you dance a little?
Take the lyrics to "Land of Confusion." In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problem of abusive political authority.
"In Too Deep" is the most moving pop song of the 1980s about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock.
Christie, get down on your knees, so Sabrina can see your asshole."
Whoops. My bad. For some reason I always think of them in the 80s.
Crink, you need more whimsy in your life. More dogs with sunglasses, less hatteration. I used to hate on 80s tunes, music of my youth. Although the synths sometimes sound insanely cheesy, you need to listen for the rich depth of music that is there, underneath some questionable instrument choices. Like Stepping Out for instance. Questionable instrument choices, but still a good song.
Naked Eyes, "Promises Promises" at, say, +2
Truer words have never been spoken. The 1980s were definitely on some next-level shit, and I'm not even sure if they have really made it where they were trying to go.
More on the cock-rocker tip, but "Two Tickets to Paradise" ... songs just don't have those types of themes anymore. It's sad, really.
especially since this song is from 1977, not the eighties
Color me corrected
Real good...but I also like Albert Collins and WC Clark, so take it with a grain of cayenne.
(Ducks and runs)
Been playing this one a lot recently:
Probably my favorite Duran Duran-related album after S/T and Rio.
All-time classics IMO:
Bad you want, bad you get...
