time for a new computer

this old school G4 is on its last lega few questions for the board.....1) should i go laptop (Powerbook) or one of those Quad Core towers????2) i am running a licensed version of Pro Tools LE7 and an MBox 2....are there any problems i might encounter?3) anyone ever do one of these finance plans with a Apple product?thanks for your help

    If you need portable grab a macbook pro, the baseline $2k model, if you want lots of expansion get a tower... From what I hear the Apple credit cards are pretty insane interest rates if you don't have stellar credit history...
    You will need to purchase upgrade to Pro Tools 7.3, but your Mbox should work fine...
    Have fun with new rig, I am contemplating upgrading from G4 too right now, I work at an Apple Specialist, so I have just been upgrading this thing for years... Just recently both the firewire and ethernet ports have died, so I just replaced them with PCIs...

    That depends really.

    I still use my G4 dual 1.49 Powermac running Pro Tools w/ the new Digi003. Runs like a charm. I use my laptop for selling on ebay, microwave, etc.

    If the computer is going to be dedicated to Pro Tools I would go with the Mac Pro tower for more usb/firewire, and expansion possibilities.

    IMHO

    I haven't tried running pro tools on my pentium macbook so I don't know about that but I haven't heard of any problems. Check here.

    it sucks cuz i just brought Pro Tools 7 less than a year ago. how much is the upgrade and do i really need it? like...will it not work without an upgrade?

    It is $50 from 7.x so it is not too terrible, I am not with it either, but that is how Digi rolls... You could try calling and bitchin, maybe they would help you out? Drop some names or something... I remember a while back I was fixing a G5 that I sold to Bob James, and he forgot to enroll his Applecare, and I called in to enroll it and and the enrollment admins were like "oh it'll be 7-10 biz days until it is in", and I told them it was Bob James, who Apple used to include some of his music in the old iTunes OS9 days, and has been featured on their website before, go ahead and enroll that right away for me, and they did... Also had a homie with a mac mini who had 2 logic boards go out and they gave me a CS code...
    Sometimes they suck sometimes they rule, my point is give it a try...
