I just finished reading the book "Number One with a Bullet" by Elaine Jesmer. Its the "Sizzling Bestseller about the mafia-corrupted, sex-soaked world of the record business." Total mindless summer reading drivel with an extra side of cheese. The story centers on the Finest Records label and the problems faced by one of its singers, one of its producers, and the head of the label, who are all cheating on their wives, smoking mad weed, blowing yay, and talking shit on each other. Apparently there are a lot of similarities between this novel and Marvin Gaye's troubles with Motown. The book does do a good job showing business side of things for record companies, from how to get your singles on the radio, to breaking or destroying an artist. It also makes people in the record business out to be selfish, self-centered, vain, greedy, and malicious. Well, plaese to discuss and recommend other record related fiction. I took a picture of the cover because I was bored.
