ive been offered the Music Explosion LP (laurie, 1968), but the seller isnt sure what he wants for it yet. its in ex cond. In the meantime i thought id see if anyone... 1. can confirm its a good record (musically). i know its garage, 1968, etc, but is it great??? 2. has any $ experience with this record. the guides say its like $25, but the UK press on popsike went for 58GBP. is that just cuz its a UK press and therefore rarer? and i see very little sign of it on ebay at all. one random website is offering it for $70. Im guessing the guides are low.. Anyone? thanks...

a bubblegum group doing garage tracks. Worth picking up,
but in my experience has always been something you could
find for less than $20, if not less than $10, with a little
patience. I bought a VG+ copy for $15, and minted up to a
cleaner one for $8 a year later.
One decent track. Very tepid.

I disagree. I think it's an underrated classic myself. Yeah, it sounds like a bubblegum band (Kasenetz-Katz produced it), but hell, some of the earliest bubble-rock records sounded half-removed from garage. That just goes with the territory - dig "Quick Joey Small" by the Kasenetz-Katz Singing Orchestral Circus. If you like ? & the Mysterians, no reason you shouldn't like this Music Explosion album. Despite the gummy overtones, this record sounds remarkably crude (in a good way) - it's not THAT sugar-coated.
Bottom line - I think it's an excellent elpee, but try to buy cheap if you can. I don't see it THAT often, but when it turns up, it's usually less than $10.
Another thing: it's from 1967, not '68. By 1968, this kind of sound was on its' way out.
musically, i can take some "gummy" style, so thats cool. This seems to be a non-classic yet oddly hard to turn up album - i guess if the music was 'killer', it would command more $. I bet i'd like it enough to own it, but im amazed at the cheap prices some of you have been seeing, and i doubt the dude will quote me less than $40 or more. this is the first time ive ever seen the record in person in my life, so i had a feeling i should grab it while it was available. No copies on ebay in the last 30 days made me think its gotta be kinda hard to find. But its weird when my gut $ instinct is contradicted by multiple strutter reports. $8? damn.
im guessing that regionally, this record can be very scarce, but in other places it pops up often enough.
i guess we'll see what dude says. i suppose if he wants more than like $25 i gotta walk away.

ya know.. this makes me distrust ebay all the more - that completed one didnt show up when i search on 'music explosion' in (all) completed items for the last 30 days. a few of the 7"s do, but no LPs. thats messed up. And the current ones didnt show up when i searched on current items. Im gonna have to reassess my settings, somethings wacky. ive heard many weird ebay tales, like different areas and countries getting different search results etc. ah well.
i appreciate the links. im armed with some data now.
Yeah, their producers used to put filler instrumentals on at least a couple of flip sides, maybe more.
