If you don't want to share what's in your kitchen, that's cool, but there are a lot of heads on here makin' beats. Some for hobby, some pro. My main studio set up is centered on a Digi 003 factory set up. I have turntables plugged into that. This way I can listen to and record samples, and route audio to various samplers on a bus.I have groovebox mc-303, a tr-808, mpc3000, and an oxygen 8 midi keyboard. They're all intertwined in an orgy of midi and audio. I'm still figuring stuff out on the mpc. Haven't figured out how to match the timecode of the mpc with pro tools. I don't want to slave the mpc because I don't want to lose the mpc feel. Tryin to figure out how to slave PT to the MPC.

    i use akai mpc-3000 and pro tools. no need to timecode. when you track it set the bpm the same and it lines up perfect. have not used timecode since the nineties/the days of 2 inch(the good ol' days). peace, stein. . .

    Damn, and your beats are so good!

    I use an mpc60 (mk1, gotta have the armrest!), s950, s01, RME Multiface, edirol controller and various compressors. You know the one thing I really want? Some time to use it all!

    I used to use more hardware, a yahmaha a5000, emu esi 2000, akai s2000, boss sp303, electribe es1, yahmaha su200, korg ms2000r, but the software with just the mpc won me over and have been using the same rig for the last 4 years with no real plans of upgrading, except for maybe copping some nice pre's. really digging the lunchbox at the moment.

    question

    does midi beat clock mess up the timing o the mpc at all? I dont want to mess up the feel of my swings, etc.

    nice to see another oberheim user here. my favourite synthesizers.. the matrix 6/1000 sounds so FAT.. cant go wrong. and its fairly cheap still. no need for a moog.

    I just sold my Oberheim Xpander I did turn that and my MPC1000 into a MPC2500, a Nord Lead 3 and a 500GB HD though So all is good! Nah, I use no time code as well...I do most of my drum sequencing in the MPC then record into Pro Tools, keeping everything at the same tempo and time stretching when need be! My sleeper is the Boss SP-303, that I use to throw some grit into the equation, nice effects, nice filter/EQ, and you can flip from 8-12-16 bit very easily...I also have a Korg Poly six, and a MS-2000 and Fender Rhodes are at my bros. crib that I can use when I want. Next item on the list is a Fender J Bass!

    I use Fruity and its piano roll is a breeze to use. Use the "FPC" plug-in in the piano roll and it's easy as pie to build beats, add samples etc.

    Thats true, but flssequencer is mad easy to use and when i just need a quick drum pattern to layer over a loop or chops or some quick synth line i want to program instead of banging out live. FL is great for the step seq and the piano roll. I dont really like to do much midi editing in ableton. Its much better working with waveforms/samples. That said though I have only been using FL hard for like a week. Been on ableton since 3.0 so its nice to switch it up. FL XXL 7 though is no joke. They really added a lot since the last time i used it, vers 3 i think.

    I love this thing. I first started making beats with this midi'd to a groovebox. Then I moved on to Reason because it was like a hundred sp-202's and a hundred grooveboxes.

    I tried Live but couldn't really fuck with it. It's not like hardware. It seems pretty nice though.

    I got a MPC3000 recently and now I'm back to the wonderful world of hardware. I'm using my ears more and my eyes less. Editing with the buttons is fun. I used to get headaches and motion sickness from staring at the waves on a computer for too long. Sensory overload.

    I just completed my first track on the MPC and it doesn't even have samples in it.

    I have it set up to run sequences. One treack sequences the 808 (drums). One track is an organ sound from my groovebox. Another track triggers samples in a Reason sampler and the last one triggers bass notes in another Reason sampler.

    Fun stuff.

    Now I'm in the market for some rack synths to connect to it. Anybody recommend an old piece I might be able to find in a pawn shop?
