I know we've had this discussion before.I'm sorry but it's just better.Waaaaaay cleaner/more user friendly interface.OK so you can't personalize the page to the same extent, e.g. allover Yves St Laurent print background with flashing bling lights. But nor are you subject to full-graphic pages that take 5 minutes to download and immediately blare the person's annoying choice of music for the whole office to hear.Me and Haz n' em are on facebook.I feel like that's reason enough to get up.

i told some chick at my work (probably like a 23yr old) that i couldn't fuck with facebook just cuz it reminded me of the same migration that happened when folks left friendster for myspace.

    her response:

    "what's friendster?"

not sure if that means i am old, she is young, or all that social networking is just for the birds.

it's definitely generational. you get on whatever social networking site is hot at the time, and another one comes on to capture the next round of folks.

i only got on facebook because I went back to school in my mid-20's and was on a small campus with a lot of undergrad-grad interaction so it made sense to get on the site. I have definitely found that I prefer it to myspace.

I???ve been on Facebook since ???04 when it was strictly college students, and its superiority over MySpace can???t even be questioned. I was on MySpace for a little while, and then I got tired of all the washed-up strippers, aspiring porn stars, ugly naked chicks smoking bongs, and bottom-feeders of my local rap experience attempting to holler at me, or most likely swipe my online persona and the various passwords that safeguard my sizable amount of internet activities.

I got on facebook while in school. Berkeley was one of the first schools to get facebook and it was real necessary. It was such a great resource. You got a sexy girl in class, you can go on facebook and see what's up, see what angle to come at her. I know it sounds lame, but facebook was got everyone booty.

no doubt. I stayed using facebook for holleration purposes while at school.

Seriously. It's not even a "game" anymore. Kids nowadays have it so easy.

This was a recent story on On the Media about the class divide between the two sites. Interesting stuff, especially the discussion of who in the military has access to what.

It looks way nicer, but I??ve been hearing about a LOT of security-related issues. Many friends of mine logged in with their personal usernames and passwords and found themselves in another completely random person??s account! There were other issues as well, like Facebook not responding to any questions about the site, nor being very helpful when ptoblems arose.

Also the copyright-related side of Facebook is a bit dodgy. Basically they own the rights to any picture you have on their site. Some friends of mine (art students, aspiring designers) put loads of graphic work on there, but took it down again fast when they learnt that Facebook can basically use it for whatever they want as long as it??s on there.

Not saying they automatically WILL do it, but they CAN, appearantly.

Still though I kinda want to sign up for it, seems like I could get in touch with a lot of people I??ve lost contact info for... hmmm, we??ll see.

Myspace is the same way with music. I bet photobucket is the same with pictures too.

yup. if there is a girl you're interested in, for merely sexual purposes, you can look her up on facebook and see if she's down for "random play" if she isn't she most likely won't list that as your relational instrests. just cause i girl doesn't list something doesn't mean that she isn't into it...that's something that people get confused about, or attempt to lead people on about, that their profile is an extension of their character. either way...it's an easy way to get boootay.

either dont list your real name/email address or don't put up pictures of you hitting a bong or snorting coke off a hooker's chest

    Doh! Too late.

For real though, this salty dude (in another dept) tried to CB my current appointment by talking to my chair and trying to raise some bullshit written about me on someone else's blog. Luckily, my chair knew this guy was a herb and ignored him.

facebook sucks. it's stupid how you have to be someone's friend or in their network or whatever to see their profile. the "networks" are stupid because it was already based on schools but they tried to bandaid it for everyone else to use. it's too canned and sterile. i have a cool little flash player for my beats on my myspace page. if i see that someone has an obnoxious myspace page, i have the perfect solution. i don't click on it again!

myspace is very poorly coded but everyone i know is on it.

There's gotta be a story behind this...

Ha, well, I'm not sure who this is. I haven't had a student who's sat in my front row twice yet.

In all seriousness, this is why I never bother to check ratemyprofessors. The anonymous posting system removes any semblance of accountability of opinions (not to mention basic civility) and you get a lot of wholly irrelevant shit that has nothing I can use to improve my teaching standards. In a sense, some of the negative reviews are helpful but frankly, students seem to go out of their way to be complete assholes instead of offering constructive criticism. If I took the same approach in grading their work, I'd probably piss a few students off and leave others in tears.

Note: on my year end evals - which are also anonymous - I get far more productive notes. The only people who post to ratemyprofessor are folks who seem to have a real axe to grind. Fuck them. It's nothing more than a rumor mill for bored and/or disgruntled students.
