This record has aged very well - I think I like it more now than when it dropped, and I was plenty into it then. Copped a copy for the shop recently and ended up taking it home, after listening to it over and over again. What are some other records that have aged *well* in hip-hop? So many do not.

above the law - livin like hustlers

we just checked it out again over a 13 hour road trip and we all love it now as much as we did when first came out.

  • See, I love both those records... but I guess I wasn't clear in that I'm looking for records that you think are BETTER now than when they first came out.

I was in love with both Livin' Like Hustlers and Southernplayalistic... from the moment I heard them.

records that you think are BETTER now than when they first came out.

Heard it, dismissed it, revisited it years later and now think it sounds great and was really prescient:

Really only besmirched by a handful of easily programmed out terds:

...at the time I thought it was a total sell-out move.

I remember thinkin this album was wack. Did like the song with OP sample though. I put Da King & I, Zhiggy, Yaggafu Front, Hard 2 Obtain, Van Full of Pakistans, Boogiemonsters in that mediocre 90's rap category.

Yeah... I have a really conflicted opinion of that record still. I don't think the follow-up has aged particularly well... although I'm about to throw on "Reservoir Dogs right now. THAT shit aged well.

Me too, but I like it even more now.

    How about Goodie Mob-Soul Food
    or
    OC-Jewelz?

  • Again, Soul Food I was already deep into... I would say that "Still Standin'" aged well for me as now I really like it whereas I kind of slept before.

    I still don't like Jewelz...

If you weren't feeling Soul Food upon its release, then I just don't know about you.

Would never think I'd see a non-joke thread about Da King & I on Soulstrut. Interesting... I like the 1st Granddaddy IU lp more now than when it first came out. I also like Organized Konfusion's 1st more today than BITD. Same for Ultramag's "The Four Horsemen".

    Encore - Self Preservation...

I have a soft spot for that one, and I think it's aged well...

Their first album is MUCH better than that one.

"tearz" on da king and I is a great song, it holds up real well.

intelligent hoodlum's first two have both aged quite well. I still like the kurious album to this day but I'm sure folks will clown on that.

Dude, their first album is junk--Pebbles was trying to turn them into a fakeazz Naughty by Nature. Third album is the best one, with this one being second.

I bought Contemporary Jeep Music while buying the Van Full Of Pakistans LP...Rowdy Records. I used to like hunt Dallas Austin productions, so DK&I was in my fav. The Benson flip was a must. The primo remix of Flip Da Script, totally stepinthearena-esque. Good times.
