Bush says that he "believes" that it would move people off of private health insurance and onto government paid insurance. He likes private insurance and does not like medicare and medicade.

Its more like universal health care for poor kids v. less taxes for tobacco products.
The dems who wrote this bill were smart enough to use taxes from cigarretes and chewing tobacco to pay for it. If bush vetoes the bill, it will be a PR nightmare.

1) israel and iraq are not one in the same. if iraq was erased from the map, we would still want/need israel to be a friend to the us.
2) change the title of the thread. it doesn't make sense. as i said before, the bill was written so that it is funded by taxes on tobacco products. therefore, spending isn't even an issue. plus, nobody has said they oppose this bill because of spending needs for the war. that is irrelevant. bush listens to the insurance companies, and of course, the insurance companies do not want federally funded health care. that is the only reason why this bill is being opposed.
