a friend got a pair of used 1200s with the grounding wires cut, frayed and shortened. Rather wack. Are there any DIY kits for self-grounding a 1200 so this ceases to be a problem?

If you've got basic soldering experience, it's a pretty self explanatory procedure to replace the ground. Get a cheap roll of 22 guage wire at radioshack or home depot to replace them. The grounds should be about 3 feet long each so you don't have any length issues (pasue) with them in the future.
