yeah, i was impressed with how Kimbo went at him... really smart tactic, make it basically a wrestling match rather than engaging in straight fisticuffs with Mercer. Ray was totally out of his element and unprepared for this kind of scrappin'. the fact that he's older than dirt couldn't have helped him either

MMA fans: do any of you think Kimbo has a real shot at having any kind of impact in the mixed martial arts world? all i know is boxing, i really don't know too much about this mma stuff

i know he can FORGET about being a real boxer... he may knock out a few soup cans, but as soon as he gets in there with a serious fighter his azz will get ... iz bond

  • Phil the answer is no. Kimbo would be destroyed by a low level MMA competitor with the quickness. If they put him in there with a striker who doesn't have much experience he has a punchers chance. But he'll never be anything in the MMA world.

I was pretty disappointed with this one. Kimbo's obviously been getting some MMA training, but you want to see these two box.

In his weight class, he would probably be in the lower echelon of UFC/PRIDE at this point. Experience is key. He's already 33 too. Most fighters start to show decline around that age.

But Phil, get familiar! MMA is that real schitt. It is the fastest growing sport in the world. (I sound like Dana White). Fedor Emelianenko is basically the baddest human being on earth right now. He is with Pride. He is a multiple Russian Judo and Sambo champion with superior boxing skills. Besides a doctor stoppage due to a deep cut, he hasn't lost a match in 7 years.

In UFC, Randy Courture is an old man, but a badass in his own right.

And those are just the heavyweights.

  • i almost paid the $14.99 or whatever it was to watch this on PPV. glad i didn't!

yeah, i know, i know.... you gotta remember, i'm an old man who's set in his ways and
I grew up on the sweet science, so that's what I'm used to... don't worry, i'm gonna get into all that ultimate fighting schitt eventually. I can definitely see why the kids would be more into MMA than boxing, though.... seems way more extreme, action packed and exciting. I really envision a day in the future- and maybe not even a very distant future- where a lot of the classic sports are gonna be phased out and replaced with newer alternatives that are supposedly more entertaining. Hockey... it's almost dead like hip hop even as we speak. Baseball better find a way to make these steroid freaks acceptable to the public or else the so-called national pasttime is gonna be gasping for air too as soon as all the old guys who grew up on the sport are dead and gone... most of the kids today could care less about baseball

  • Damn, Mercer looked like shit..no huge suprise..but it was still pretty entertaining to watch just because who Kimbo was fighting. And yeah, I dont see Kimbo making a dent in the MMA, too bad he isnt younger. But I gotta admit I loved seeing dude come out swingin' on Ray like that.

    kimbo would get

by any of the hardcore dudes in that sport...violent as all hell! They put that on a tv while I'm djing at this club all the time...fucking intense...

  • I heard there was some Tank Abbott/Kimbo Slice smack-talking after the match. I don't really follow this stuff but are those two dudes gonna fight? Abbott might work him.

Tank is actually a more technical fighter than he gets credit for. He's old and his head may no longer be in the game, but as a fighter I always thought his "drunken brawler" reputation was not really on point. Dude was a skilled scrapper. Admittedly his recent fights have been pretty much doo doo on a stick though.

MMA is a very exciting sport. If you look at UFC, amidst the testosterone-fueled crowd and barbaric catch match setting, there's actually quite a lot of technicality that goes into a match. A fighter can be beat in numerous ways at any giving time; including over-hand right punches, counters, "ground and pound", and rear naked chokes. At the inception of the sport, it was much more gimmicky because you'd basically have a Judo guy vs a Boxer. Now, the individual levels at each class have risen so much that the best fighters can do just about anything.

yo... i know these are not examples of the best that this sport has to offer, is it? where is the hagler vs. hearns of ultimate fighting? that's what i want to see, some schitt that will captivate me and make me want to get into it. post some schitt like that, cuz that last vid was kinda lookin' like some gay porn for a second there... thought they were getting ready to start rasslin' in the 69 position, in which case i was about to click over to another thread

Dude you gotta get over the fact that they are sweaty men, sometimes getting into awkward positions. They are Jujitsu specialists and so they'll be "grappling" much more than going for the standing knockout. Those guys are two of Pride fighting's best though.
