I record directly into Garageband and then export it to iTunes. After that, the mp4 is converted to mp3.

  • Audacity - free download

I just ripped a bunch of songs with this. At the top you see a couple level meters. The second one on the right has a lil' microphone icon beneath it.
Drop down to "Monitor input" and hit record basically.

    Then when you're done hit

now a somewhat dumbfounded question from a technological novice:
just downloaded audacity and plugged in through the EQ wired through Tape 2 on my receiver.
seems to record decent enough but at what level do you generally want to keep the microphone input? .1? .5? etc.

also once recorde, then you need to export the file? it says something about a program lamelib?

    enlighten please.

    thanks!
