Crazy Bay Area Soul Acetate (eBay related)

Class Cutting Project Saw this yesterday and was praying that it'd get through the cracks, but this is way out of my league. Sold by a strutter who posts in classifieds pretty often. Really phenomenal record though, one of the best Bay Area soul records I've ever heard.Does anyone know the history behind it (paging Dante)? Definately deserves to be reissued or put on a comp (which may happen seeing who the winning bidder is, if I'm remembering my eBay names correctly).

WOW.... that first song is really good

    Totally unreleased? Really??

No one that I've talked to knows the history behind it. Mystery group at this point. I hope it gets reissued (or I should say "issued") as well. So who is the winning bidder?

  • It's not that good really, though I can see the attraction because of it's rarity.

Ha, that is Shadow, right? I remember that eBay name being
passed around on here a while back ... so, I couldn't resist
looking at his recent purchases, and they are amusing and confusing -
he seems to be buying every version of "Rock Around the Clock" he
can get his hands on, as well as other early-60's and 50's R&R stuff -
he also bought a $2.99 45 of Stevie Nicks "Edge of Seventeen," a picture
sleeve 45 of The Fixx "Saved By Zero," and an expensive Australian 45 of
Metallica "One" ... truly confusing even for him ... but best of all is this:

Never on eBay with a one of a kind acetate

A possibly one of a kind funk acetate sold by one of the top eBay record dealers (with sound in the auction). That would be a little more than crazy.

I was the second highest. Hoping he doesn't come through with the payment. Godamn I suck at EBAY.

Mildly interesting. I might pay $1 for a high-quality digital download of "Love Machine."

Isn't that sampled by De La Soul?

I was wondering that, too - I remember that
"I'd like to return to the classics" line
in Plug Tunin' ... maybe that's what it is.

This record was worth every penny IMO. Step your collecting game up and recognize the raer.

  • Seriously though, I'll take some Little Johnny Taylor over this anyday.

I'd rather step up the rent paying game.

no, I understand but from a collectable standpoint, if you collect this sort of thing (I actively collect acetates which are one of kind), then I can see the value. You can't compare this to something that saw a full scale release. The music being good is almost icing on the cake with something like this imo.

I think you actually meant to use

  • I totally agree Thes, I'm just funning around.
Probably will never see another one of these joints, pretty cool stuff.

    Plus, acetates smell GOOOOOD
