In a brief episode of bizarro world...My ears were treated to an important debate/discourse on hiphop culture taking place in the cafeteria of a prestigious canadian university...the words "what about that scott storch diss" immediately caught my ears as i turned my head and witnessed the participants to the discussion... a group of individuals whose very existence instantly rendered the overused "hiphop is dead" a potent reality and whose level of diconnectedness has yet to be parralelled...A man sitting down in the middle of the group...reminiscent of Sr Storch's third removed polish nephew...with nerd glasses and a face as gentle as pop'n'fresh's was commenting "yeah he can rap". He was obvioubsly the hiphop reference and wiseman of the click..his self-assurance oozing of "realness". "did'nt swizz beat rap?'' asks a greekish girl in full pink sweatsuit an refreshingly makeup absent glare of curiousness shinning like her golden baby phat earings. "not at first he's a producer" coldly responded a short man i can only decribe as south asian guido midget connoisseur. and with that the table was set. The real shchitting pudgy white doughboy...the curious and always avid female and the quirky rap fan..all discussing with me and my comp as the solitary witnesssuch lyrical gems were dropped..here is a choice selection...a recollection of sorts of the complex exchangeGuid:"Yo did you check that new Cassidy Mixtape..him and J-Kwon are pretty good"Girl"J-kwon is lame"RealSchitter:"I really dont listen to mainstream mixtapes"Guid:"Cassidy is more of a battle rapper than a mixtape rapper"RealSchitter"Yeah i guess he is pretty underground"Girl then proceeded to discuss papoose and that point my mind automatically shut down for an instant (self-defence psych mechanism)"Gorilla Black" "Noooo! he's back...lol" those words shocked my mind back to awarenesswhen i awakened they had moved on to issues emcopassed in the Death of hiphop[/b] Real schitter: "You listen to that South stuff!"Guido: "I appreciate a lil' Weezy here and there"Girl:"I cant really stand all that gangster stuff"Both dudes: "There's not much of it anymore"Girl: "I mean..I cant do the whole degradation of women thing..."An intense contestation..its relevance only surpassed by it intellectual noveltyGirl: "I love Jay-Z"Both dudes: "Hated the new album"Girl: "What..i loved it"Real schitter: "All girls like it..Guido: "yeah!"Girl: "I prefered the Linkin Park stuff though...Guido: "You are pretty knowledgeable about hiphop"Girl: "Yeah thats all I listen to"The discussion moved up the stairs, while I remained..stomach churning...determined to share this occurence with the strut community...we pride ourselves in debating a supposedly tired matter with our own brand of sophisticated rap knowledge, lyrical wizardry, clever personas and profound understanding of the bastion that is rap sharpening our arguments. Every post a contribution to the ever complex North/South divide and capitalist cultural debates that permeate the intelectual world...but we sometimes forget that amongst us...in the Real[/b] world..moves are made that put us to shame...real world moves that eclipse even our wittiest of online responsesI leave you with these thoughts my friends so we may all grow...
