What's the deal. I've been told there are used vinyl shops in the "centre" of these cities. I doubt I'll find anything with those directions so I need help. Anyone hit them before? Worth checking out? Any idea of where I should go? I have no idea even where to look. Appreciate any info you can pass on...

I don't know if its up to date, but give it a try.

U should def. go to Vinyl Records in the Aalmoezenierstraat in Antwerpen. Nice collection and friendly prices.

when in holland you all should definitely take time out to visit erwin & co at demon fuzz in rotterdam as well. one of the best shops i've been to no doubt.
    check demonfuzz.com for more info.

  • Hey,

I used to live in Brussels and it's a great place to shop for records. United Music (in the post above) has got a nice selection and there's a dude there called Michel who's crazy friendly.

For new stuff, check out Music Mania near the grand place (google it for the exact address). Worth checking for french / belgian / dutch hip hop if that interests you, Lefto is the hip hop expert behind the desk, and he's involved in B1000 records who released a monsta island czars 12" a while back.

A little out of the centre but in a great, chilled area (Ixelles) are two Arlequin shops opposite one another

    Arlequin, 7, rue de l' Ath??n??e 1050 Bruxelles

One is good for old soul, funk, rock, hip hop, reggae, and loads of new dancehall / dub / roots 7"s. The shop opposite is full of nice jazz, and weird experimental soundtracks, can, zappa, stereolab etc. Pair of great shops. Guy in the first shop is called Peter and he's English. There's a nice square for a beer and food near here called place boniface.

    Enjoy!
    JB

When was the last time you were out there? Stopped by a few weeks ago and the shop i used to love (and saw growing bigger and bigger) has become pretty crappy...

Mostly new stuff, not too much interesting things on the walls: Ebay in full effect.

I believe United Music is no longer...

In the same street (Boulevard Adolphe Max, nr. 97), there is Disc-O-sold, a nice shop with music and film books, and records in the back (good jazz-section with good prices).

Follow the street southwards and you'll walk on Boulevard Anspach, where you have
-The collector next to la bourse,
-Goupil-o-phone (not a really great shop, but maybe you're lucky, they have new and 2nd hand hiphop, blunted beats, techno and some jazz, soundtracks...)
-Juke box shop (very large stock (soul/funk/jazz, oldies, rock, psych)
-Discomania (only heavy metal and hardrock records and porn dvd's)
-Pele Mele store (bookstore, records are in the back. Good jazz section, good prices)

Parallel to blvd. Anspach, there is Rue de midi, with 2 shops, one above a comic book store, and one above a bookstore.

A very good store is the (mentioned above) Arlequin shop at Ixelles (they also have a good shop near Manneken Pis, in the center), Atheneumstraat 7 (rue de l'athen??e), probably the best for hiphop and reggae/dub. A good funk/soul section, and the shop on the other side of the street has great jazz and soundtracks.

Vossenplein = Place de jeu de balles indeed, Eric. They say Sundays are the best days to check it out, but I didn't have the chance yet to check it out on a good moment.

Good look'n to everyone. This will help us a lot. I'm hoping to find some good DVD stuff out there also. I'm assuming it's all in the same area right? Man... Any of y'all hitting the show on the 16th? Let us know... I'm going to bring some records up to trade in.

I`d like to know too if demonfuzz is crabby nowadays, because I`ve thought to spend my holiday at Rotterdam.
